Piko Valley horse treks cater for groups of up to 10 riders and from novice to all levels of expertise. Your ride will take you along picturesque farm tracks bordering the upper Urenui River on one side and the native bush of Pouiatoa Reserve on the other.
The farm consists of several catchment valleys and encompasses a wide variety of scenery and bio diversity. The area is also incorporated into the T.E.T. Kiwi conservation scheme and as such has North Island's largest contingent of brown Kiwi.
Riders have the opportunity to see not only the farm animals but also large herds of wild goats and small mobs of wild pigs. There is also an abundance of diverse bird life featuring resident Falcons, Hawks and it is common to be escorted by flocks of frolicking Fantails.
This is a 3 hour loop trail of semi tamed land and at mid journey there is a refreshment stop. As the clearer areas are all on the Valley floor it means the terrain is mainly flat with some river crossings.
Picnic tables are available if groups wish to extend their day out in the back country and there are numerous swimming holes.
The 3 hour ride costs $50 each for groups of 4 or more; $60 each for 2 or 3 riders; $70 for a single rider.
The "Horse Trek'n Piko Valley" location is 45 minutes drive time from downtown New Plymouth and is a scenic delight in the drive alone.
